Member States
Member States are States that have ratified or acceded to the Metre Convention and are therefore entitled to fully participate in BIPM activities.
There are currently 64 Member States and 37 Associate States and Economies.

Member States’ benefits
Member States are entitled to fully participate in BIPM activities, including:
- Attending and voting at meetings of the General Conference on Weights and Measures (CGPM) (BIPM's plenary body)
- Eligibility for a candidate to be elected to the International Committee for Weights and Measures (CIPM) (BIPM's executive body)
- Becoming a member or observer of the CIPM Consultative Committees
- Accessing calibration services, through the BIPM laboratories
- Accessing international comparisons organized by the BIPM and obtaining internationally recognized Calibration and Measurement Capabilities (CMCs) published in the BIPM Key Comparison Database (KCDB)
- Contributing to Coordinated Universal Time (UTC)
- Attending meetings of Directors of National Metrology Institutes (NMIs), Member State and Associate Representatives
- Accessing BIPM Capacity Building and e-learning activities
