Coming Together - In Numbers

 

64 Member States 37 Associates 7 Base Units
     
As of May 2025, 64 countries are Member States of the BIPM, underscoring a strong global commitment to unified measurement standards. In addition to the Member States, 37 Associates participate in BIPM activities, reflecting widespread international collaboration. The International System of Units (SI) comprises seven base units - second, metre, kilogram, ampere, kelvin, mole and candela – that form the foundation for all scientific and technical measurement worldwide.
     
+ 4 000 CBKT Participants 26 125 CMCs and 1 211 Key Comparisons 98 NMIs and 156 DIs
     
More than 4 000 individuals from 126 countries have engaged in the BIPM’s Capacity Building and Knowledge Transfer (CBKT) programs, enhancing global metrological capabilities. As of December 2024, 26 125 CMCs have been published in the KCDB (across general physics, ionizing radiation and chemistry) and 1 211 key comparisons and 713 supplementary comparisons have been carried out, ensuring international consistency and equivalence in measurement standards. A total of 258 institutes, comprising 98 NMIs, 156 DIs and 4 international organizations, participate in the CIPM Mutual Recognition Arrangement (CIPM MRA), ensuring global equivalence of measurement standards.
