The Dominican Republic joins the CIPM MRA


On 27 July 2026, the Director of the Dominican Republic’s National Metrology Institute (NMI) signed the CIPM Mutual Recognition Arrangement (CIPM MRA).

As a signatory to the CIPM MRA, the Institute is now able to participate in international scientific comparisons, develop Calibration and Measurement Capabilities (CMCs), and publish them in the CIPM MRA database (the KCDB).

The Dominican Republic participates in the CIPM MRA through its National Metrology Institute (NMI), Instituto Dominicano para la Calidad (INDOCAL), which is a member of the Inter-American Metrology System (SIM), the Regional Metrology Organization (RMO) recognized by the CIPM.

The Dominican Republic’s Accession to the Metre Convention

The Dominican Republic acceded to the Metre Convention and became a Member State of the BIPM on 9 April 2026.

Membership allows the Dominican Republic to take an active role in the governance of the BIPM, through voting and representation at the General Conference of Weights and Measures (CGPM), and to contribute to the scientific and technical work coordinated through the BIPM.

Together, Member State status and participation in the CIPM MRA enable the Dominican Republic to contribute fully to, and benefit from, the international measurement system.
