Overview
The BIPM and the Italian Physical Society (SIF) jointly organize the Varenna Metrology Summer School at the Enrico Fermi International School of Physics in Varenna, Italy. This programme addresses current challenges and opportunities in measurement science while providing young metrologists and lecturers with valuable networking and professional development opportunities.
Through the BIPM’s CBKT programme, and with the support of METAS (the National Metrology Institute of Switzerland), selected young metrologists have participated in three editions of the Summer School (2016, 2019, and 2025). Their experience has been complemented by short research placements (two to six weeks) at METAS, focusing on specific metrology topics. These sponsorships are aimed to support emerging metrologists with strong scientific potential – the “high flyers” of tomorrow.
CBKT initiatives, which are typically topic-based, are made possible through voluntary support. Member States and Associates, as well as international organizations, private entities and foundations, are all invited and welcome to provide voluntary support of all kinds to sustain the CBKT Programme.
Announcements regarding the next Varenna Metrology School will be published as soon as they become available.
