Senior Communications Officer

 

The BIPM seeks to recruit for the following appointment:

  • Post Title: Senior Communications Officer
  • Grade: A9 (based on qualifications and experience)

  • Type of contract: Fixed-term appointment of 5 years, with the possibility of subsequent conversion to an indefinite contract
  • Location: Sèvres (a suburb of Paris) - France

 

The BIPM is seeking a Senior Communications Officer to join the International Liaison and Communication (ILC) Department. The post holder will ensure a consistent presence of the BIPM on the internet and social media, and promote the BIPM publications. The post holder will advise the BIPM Director, the ILC Director and the technical departments on strategic communication and outreach activities.

Principal duties and responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Director of the Department for International Liaison and Communication, the post holder will:

  • Develop consistent concepts and materials to present the work of the BIPM to experts, diplomats and decision makers as well as the broader public
  • Manage the internet and social media presence of the BIPM
  • Specify and produce texts and visuals for different target groups and media
  • Support information campaigns and events initiated by the BIPM Director and the departments
  • Participate in the work of the Capacity Building and Knowledge Transfer (CBKT) team and in the delivery of projects and events
  • Provide support to the Director of the ILC Department in defining the BIPM strategy on aspects of communication, stakeholder management and outreach.

Required qualifications

Education

  • A higher degree (or equivalent qualification) in physical science, engineering, or information technology.
  • Advantageous: A degree in science communication.

Work experience

  • At least 5 years’ experience in the communication team of a National Metrology Institute or an international body addressing a technical and scientific audience.
  • Experience in organizing information campaigns and large events.

Skills and competencies

  • Good knowledge of the development and management of material for websites and social media.
  • Skills in writing in English for a targeted audience.
  • An excellent level of spoken English and a working knowledge of French.
  • Experience with the use of software for web publication, typesetting, photo and video editing.
  • The ability to work in a multicultural environment and to maintain good working relations inside and outside the organization.

Terms of Employment & Benefits

The BIPM offers for this position a fixed-term appointment of 5 years with the possibility of conversion to an indefinite contract based on level of performance and availability of budget. The competitive annual gross salary upon appointment will be between €65 477 and €70 478. It will depend on qualifications and experience and is not subject to income tax in France (however it will be taken into consideration for the calculation of the effective taxation rate, depending on the marital status).

Benefits include a minimum of thirty working days’ vacation per year. The BIPM provides a contributory pension scheme and private health insurance for staff members, which can be extended to cover dependents. In addition, various allowances are applicable, depending on family circumstances and expatriate status.
