Purpose
UNIDO is the specialized agency of the United Nations that promotes industrial development for poverty reduction, inclusive globalization and environmental sustainability. The mission of UNIDO is to promote and accelerate sustainable industrial development in developing countries and economies in transition. This includes developing the technical infrastructure, including metrology.
The BIPM and UNIDO cooperate to promote SI and the world metrology system for developing nations through UNIDO support for quality infrastructure, and specifically for metrology at national level in developing countries and for regional metrology initiatives, particularly with AFRIMETS.
