Links between the BIPM and the JRC

• The JRC participates in the CCQM, the CCRI and its Section II: Measurement of radionuclides and Section III: Neutron measurements.
• Members of the JRC contribute to various CCQM and JCTLM working groups. The JRC has contributed to various CCQM workshops.

Purpose

As the European Commission's science and knowledge service, the mission of JRC is to support EU policies with independent evidence throughout the whole policy cycle. Its work has a direct impact on the lives of citizens by contributing with its research outcomes to a healthy and safe environment, secure energy supplies, sustainable mobility and consumer health and safety.

The JRC is a Directorate-General of the European Commission under the responsibility of Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth.

Comprised of strategy and coordination, knowledge production, knowledge management and support directorates, the JRC is spread across six sites (Brussels, Geel, Ispra, Karlsruhe, Petten and Seville) in five different countries (Belgium, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands and Spain) within the EU.

The BIPM and the JRC cooperate in the field of ionizing radiation to ensure that radioactivity measurement methods at the JRC are harmonized with the world-wide standards.

The BIPM and the JRC cooperate in the field of chemistry to ensure that measurement methods and standards developed by the JRC are consistent with developments in international metrology, follow scientific outcomes of intercomparisons organized within the AQUILA network which fall within activities of the CCQM Gas Analysis Working Group (interaction with the JRC is managed through the relevant CCQM Working Groups) and follow developing activities within the AQUILA network as potential future activities of European NMIs or DIs.
