Abstract

We report the results of a second bilateral comparison of pressure measurement between NIST (USA) and NPLI (India) over the applied pressure range 0.4 MPa to 4.0 MPa. This comparison is a repeat of one performed in 2003. The comparison was performed using a piston gauge transfer standard (TS). This TS was cross-floated against the laboratory secondary standards"PG13" at NIST and"NPLI-8" at NPLI. Measurements at the nominal pressure points were first made on increasing pressure and subsequently on decreasing pressure. The comparison data were analyzed to determine the values of the effective area A eff of the TS over the above-mentioned pressure range. We used these values to estimate the zero-pressure effective area A o and the pressure distortion coefficient λ of the TS. The degree of equivalence of the A eff results over the range is within the expanded (k = 2) uncertainty.
