Abstract

The APMP.M.F-K3 key comparison was conducted to determine the degree of equivalence among national force standards in the Asia-Pacific region and to provide supporting evidence for the calibration and measurement capabilities (CMCs) claimed by participating National Metrology Institutes (NMIs). The comparison was organised in accordance with the decision of the APMP Technical Committee for Mass and Related Quantities (TCM) meeting held in Beijing in October 2004, with NIM (China) serving as the pilot laboratory.

The comparison comprised two schemes: APMP.M.F-K3.a (Scheme A), covering force levels of 500 kN and 1 MN, with PTB serving as the linking laboratory, and APMP.M.F-K3.b (Scheme B), covering a force level of 500 kN, with NMIJ serving as the linking laboratory. The results from ten participating NMIs were evaluated against the key comparison reference value (KCRV). At 500 kN, all results were equivalent to the KCRV within their stated uncertainties, except for Laboratory 9, while at 1 MN, all results were equivalent except for Laboratories 3 and 6. The comparison provides an assessment of the equivalence of the participating national force standards and supporting evidence for their claimed CMCs.
