The Federative Republic of Brazil (then the Empire of Brazil) was one of the initial signatories of the Metre Convention (20 May 1875).

It ratified the Convention and first became a Member State on 19 April 1921.

It withdrew with effect from 1932, then acceded again on 14 April 1954.
