CCRI Webinar : "Quantum Technologies for Ionizing Radiation Metrology"

The application of quantum sensing technologies to ionizing radiation metrology presents new opportunities for improving measurement precision and energy resolution, while also posing challenges in their practical implementation and traceability. Building on the CCRI's ongoing interest in novel detector systems, this webinar focuses on three advanced quantum-based sensor platforms currently at the forefront of radionuclide and photon metrology. Presentations will cover the fully quantum operation of Transition-Edge Sensors with SQUID readout, the hybrid approach of Metallic Magnetic Calorimeters combining classical thermometry with quantum-interference amplification, and the use of Superconducting Nanowire Single-Photon Detectors for absolute photon counting. In addition, the opening talk will establish the fundamental link between radiation quantization and detection principles.
