BIPM Workshop on Accelerating the adoption of Quantum Technologies
through Measurements and Standards
21st and 22nd March 2024
Physical Metrology Department
Standards play a critical role in establishing a market for emerging technologies such as quantum. The National Metrology Institutes (NMIs) and Designated Institutes (DIs) of Member States, through their expertise and historical ties to industry and standards development organizations, are well positioned to inform the standardization process through sound science, and to connect the research and commercial communities.
This workshop will set the direction for a new CIPM initiative that will leverage the combined expertise of the NMIs and DIs to accelerate the development and adoption of quantum technologies through coordinated development and sharing of measurement “best practices” in support of future standardization.
The workshop will provide an opportunity for strategic leaders from NMIs and DIs to:
- Share information on priority activities to support quantum technology development and adoption.
- Agree on an initial strategy and framework for an ongoing quantum initiative, including industry engagement.
- Establish potential task groups in quantum technology areas where NMIs and DIs are willing to collaborate to accelerate the development of best measurement practices.
Participation per Member State may be limited to one or two attendees from each institute to facilitate equitable representation of all interested in participating.
The workshop will be hosted at the BIPM in Sèvres, France. You can choose to attend in-person or on-line via Zoom.
If you are planning to attend in-person, you will find information about the geographic location of the BIPM and how to get there here.
There are many hotels around Sèvres you can browse using your favorite booking site. You can also use this list gathering a few hotels near the BIPM.
The number of in-person attendees is limited to two per NMI/DI, one delegate and one expert. Two additional observers will also be able attend the workshop on-line only. The delegate and the expert can attend remotely as well.
Delegate, expert, and observers must be designated by the director of their NMI/DI using a specific nomination form the director receives with the invitation letter.
Notice that the registration to the workshop requires that the pre-meeting questionnaire has been completed. This on-line questionnaire is accessible from the invitation letter.
However, should you find it useful in preparing your answers, you will find Word and PDF versions of this questionnaire by clicking on the following links: Word version / PDF version.
An arbitration of the number of participants per NMI/DI is likely to be made in case the number of in-person registrations exceeds the capacity of the BIPM.
