Recording Available Now: UNESCO–BIPM World Metrology Day webinar

As governments and regulators confront increasingly complex technologies — from AI-enabled medical devices to automated energy systems — the need for reliable, internationally comparable evidence is more important than ever.

Held on 20 May 2026, the UNESCO–BIPM World Metrology Day webinar brought together speakers from international organizations, National Metrology Institutes (NMIs), regulatory bodies and academia to explore how metrology contributes to evidence-based decision-making, quality infrastructure and confidence in emerging technologies.

Discussions addressed practical examples ranging from electricity shortages and agricultural trade to AI-enabled measuring instruments, environmental monitoring and the growing role of international measurement systems in supporting regulation and public trust.

Across the webinar, a consistent message emerged: trusted policy depends on trusted measurements. Whether supporting international trade, public services, industrial systems or emerging digital technologies, metrology provides part of the foundation on which confidence in modern systems is built.

The BIPM thanks all speakers and participants who contributed to the webinar and to the wider World Metrology Day 2026 celebrations taking place around the world.
