BIPM150 Poster Session: Collaborative Metrology for a Greener Asia-Pacific Future

As countries across the Asia-Pacific region advance their energy transitions, coordinated measurement efforts are proving vital to ensure progress is consistent, traceable and equitable.

At the BIPM’s Scientific Symposium held during the 150th Anniversary of the Metre Convention, Dr Oijai Ongrai from National Institute of Metrology (Thailand) presented a poster on behalf of the Asia Pacific Metrology Programme (APMP) Energy Efficiency Focus Group (EEFG).

Her poster entitled, “Collaborative metrology efforts for sustainable energy solutions in the Asia-Pacific,” explores how joint technical activities are helping to strengthen regional energy measurement capabilities.

The research underscores the need for collective efforts to close energy measurement, reporting and verification (MRV) capability gaps and support countries at different stages of economic development and energy system maturity.

Priority areas addressed include hydrogen energy, electric vehicles, smart electricity grids and metrology for energy efficiency.

“We want to empower our members to contribute to net-zero initiatives […] We do this by improving technical capacities, engaging with stakeholders, and promoting knowledge exchange.” said Dr Ongrai during her presentation.
