Peru becomes a BIPM Member State
The Republic of Peru acceded to the Metre Convention and became a Member State of the BIPM on 11 August 2026, strengthening its participation in the international measurement system.
Prior to this, Peru participated in BIPM activities as an Associate.
Full membership will allow Peru to take an active role in the governance of the BIPM, through voting and representation at the General Conference on Weights and Measures (CGPM), and to contribute to the scientific and technical work coordinated through the BIPM.
Peru's engagement with the BIPM
After becoming an Associate on 28 May 2009, the National Institute for Quality of Peru (INACAL), joined the CIPM Mutual Recognition Arrangement (CIPM MRA) on 17 November.
Since 2009, INACAL has actively contributed to the realization of the CIPM MRA by:
- building a portfolio of Calibration and Measurement Capabilities (CMCs). As of today, INACAL has declared 1492 CMCs in the CIPM MRA database (KCDB).
- active engagement in international comparisons, evidenced by participation in 111 key and supplementary comparisons.
INACAL participates in the CIPM MRA as a member of the Inter-American Metrology System (SIM), subregion ANDIMET, the Regional Metrology Organization recognized by the CIPM.
