The Republic of Uzbekistan acceded to the Metre Convention and became a Member State of the BIPM, strengthening its participation in the international measurement system.

Prior to this, Uzbekistan participated in BIPM activities as an Associate.

Uzbekistan’s engagement with the BIPM

After becoming an Associate on 13 July 2018, the Uzbek National Institute of Metrology (UzNIM) joined the CIPM Mutual Recognition Arrangement (CIPM MRA) on 12 November.

Since 2018, UzNIM has actively contributed to the realization of the CIPM MRA by:

  • building an early-stage, but steadily growing, portfolio of Calibration and Measurement Capabilities (CMCs). As of today, UzNIM has declared 17 CMCs in the CIPM MRA database (KCDB)
  • active engagement in international comparisons, evidenced by participation in 40 key and supplementary comparisons
  • a strong focus on capacity building and integration, demonstrated through the organization of, and participation in, various capacity building and knowledge transfer activities.

Uzbekistan currently chairs the Regional Metrology Organization, the Euro-Asian Cooperation of National Metrological Institutions (COOMET), hosts its secretariat and represents COOMET in the JCRB. The 49th meeting of the JCRB was held in Uzbekistan in 2025.
