BIPM - GULFMET CMC writers and reviewers’ course

Date and venue

  • 20 – 22 October 2025
  • Doha, Qatar, GULFMET

Overview

This was a collaborative initiative between the BIPM and GULFMET aimed at building capacity among technical experts engaged in the CIPM MRA Calibration and Measurement Capabilities (CMCs) submission and review process. The course was designed to provide a structured and comprehensive understanding of the end-to-end workflow for publication of CMCs within the KCDB environment and to ensure that participants are confident in navigating both the technical and procedural elements of the CIPM MRA framework surrounding CMCs.

The course covered key CIPM MRA requirements for CMCs, including specifications, types of uncertainty expression, metrological traceability, and technical evidence, as well as the Quality Management System (QMS) requirements necessary for CMC approval. GULFMET-specific requirements and regional practices were also presented, with input from experts in different metrology areas. Hands-on sessions using the KCDB training platform allowed participants to gain practical experience in writing CMCs and conducting intra-RMO reviews.

Knowledge transfer was delivered through a mix of presentations, demonstrations, and exercises, including a simulation of the review process. Participants were required to draft and review CMCs on the KCDB training platform and completed group exercises to reinforce learning.

Participants

The course was attended by metrology experts involved in drafting CMCs on behalf of their institutes as well as those who carry out review of CMCs on behalf of their RMO.
