Célébrons ensemble les 100 ans du CCEM

Registration is now open for a special workshop marking the 100th anniversary of the Consultative Committee for Electricity and Magnetism (CCEM), organized by the BIPM in Sèvres, France, on 10 March 2027.

The centenary will bring together members and stakeholders from across the electromagnetic metrology community to celebrate a century of international scientific collaboration — while also looking ahead to the challenges and opportunities that will shape the future of electrical and magnetic metrology.

Event at a glance

100 years of the CCEM

Established by the CIPM in 1927 as the Consultative Committee for Electricity (CCE), the Committee has played an important role in coordinating the global comparability of electromagnetic measurements and responding to developments in electrical metrology. In 1997, its name was changed to the Consultative Committee for Electricity and Magnetism (CCEM), reflecting its broader remit.

Today, the CCEM brings together experts from National Metrology Institutes (NMIs) and Designated Institutes (DIs) to foster equivalence and global interoperability and promote the harmonization of electromagnetic measurements within the SI.

The anniversary workshop will reflect on this history and the scientific advances of the past century, before turning to the emerging measurement needs and technologies that will help define the CCEM’s next chapter.

Young Scientist Poster Competition

How could your research contribute to the future of electrical metrology?

As part of the centenary celebrations, the CCEM is inviting early-career scientists to submit their work to a special Young Scientist Poster Competition.

The competition is open to single authors from National Metrology Institutes (NMIs), Designated Institutes (DIs), industry, and academia who have no more than eight years of professional activity after receiving their highest degree.

Posters should present technical work directly related to precision electrical metrology, addressing current or future challenges and emerging opportunities within the field.

The top ten posters will be featured at the CCEM centenary workshop, and the winning author will be invited to present their research in person. Travel to Sèvres will be funded up to €2,500.
