As part of a special issue Focus on Challenges in Time and Frequency Metrology, a paper was published in Metrologia discussing how the UTC serves the international community and the modern applications: Towards a consensus on a continuous coordinated universal time. The latest issue of the ITU News Magazine also focuses on The future of Coordinated Universal Time.

These two recent publications highlight the need for and steps towards a continuous UTC, an objective which is in line with the decisions made at the 2018 and 2022 meetings of the General Conference on Weights and Measures.
