International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC)

Founded in 1906, the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is the world's leading organization for the preparation and publication of International Standards for "electrotechnology", meaning all electrical, electronic and related technologies. The IEC provides a platform to companies, industries and governments for meeting, discussing and developing the International Standards they require.

Jointly with ISO, the IEC publishes standards having an impact on metrology, such as ISO/IEC 17025. Where joint ISO/IEC standards are concerned, contact with the BIPM is made through ISO.
