CODATA Task Group on Fundamental Constants

The Committee on Data for Science and Technology (CODATA) Task Group on Fundamental Constants (TGFC), established in 1969, is one of the original Task Groups of CODATA. Its purpose is to periodically provide the scientific and technological communities with a self-consistent set of internationally recommended values of the basic constants and conversion factors of physics and chemistry based on all of the relevant data available at a given point in time.

Because of the close linkage between the SI units and fundamental constants, the CODATA-TGFC enjoys a close relationship with the BIPM and the CCU.

Links between the BIPM and the CODATA-TGFC:

  • CODATA-TGFC participates in the CCU.
  • The BIPM regularly hosts meetings of the CODATA-TGFC.
  • The BIPM also hosts the CODATA-TGFC portal on the BIPM website. The public section of this website provides information about the activities of the TGFC including meeting dates, meeting minutes, and membership.
  • Dr Terry Quinn, former Director of the BIPM, and Dr Estefanía De Mirandés, Executive Secretary of the CCU, are also members.
