On 14 November 2018 Dr Richard Davis (BIPM) was presented with this year's NCSL International (NCSLI) William A. Wildhack Award during a reception at the Musée des Arts et Métiers and in conjunction with the 26th meeting of the CGPM.
The award, for outstanding contributions to the field of metrology and measurement science, was presented by Dr James Olthoff, President
of NCSLI, who said: "Richard has spent his entire career working in
fundamental mass metrology. His contributions to the advancement of the new SI revisions, working on both the Avogadro and Kibble approaches, have been critical in getting us to this point."
In 2010 the CIPM awarded Dr Davis the exceptional title of Principal Research Physicist Emeritus after his retirement as Head of the BIPM's Mass Section. Since then he has been working as BIPM Consultant.
