Dieter Kind (1929-2018)

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Prof. Dieter Kind, an honorary member of the CIPM, on 10 June 2018.

Prof. Dieter Kind was born in Bohemia in 1929. In 1957 he received his doctorate in electrical engineering from the Technical University of Munich. His research focused on high voltage engineering, particularly the electric strengths of various gases and the breakdown for voltage discharge. He joined the Braunschweig Technical University for High Voltage Technique and in 1975 he was appointed as President of the PTB. He oversaw the PTB during more than 20 years. He became IEEE Fellow in 1978 for his development of high voltage measurement and test methods. He was also a member of the German Physical Society.

Prof. Dieter Kind was elected to the CIPM in 1976. He served as President of the CCEM from 1992 to 1996. He was President of the CIPM from 1984 to 1996.
