The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is an international organization that brings together experts to develop consensus-based standards to ensure quality, safety and efficiency. ISO/TC85/SC 2 is concerned with standards for radiological protection - from measuring radioactivity in the environment to reference radiations for calibrating dosemeters for radiation protection. Such standards are an integral part of the metrology infrastructure, providing guidance on best practice.
The BIPM is joining other international organizations, including the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the International Commission on Radiation Units and Measurements (ICRU), as a liaison organization with the committee. The appointment enables staff from the BIPM to contribute to the development of ISO standards, with the aim of harmonizing traceability to the international measurement system.
