Saturday 1 July 2017 marked a milestone in the CCU/CCM roadmap towards the revision of the SI. In view of the need to fix the values of several constants to redefine the SI, this was the deadline set by the CIPM by which new experimental results should be accepted for publication in order to be considered in the special 2017 adjustment of the fundamental constants. The CODATA Task Group on Fundamental Constants is now working on the least-squares adjustment, and the results will be published later in the year.
A large number of new results have been published in Metrologia, from teams of experimentalists around the world. The list of papers is available on Metrologia's website at https://iopscience.iop.org/journal/0026-1394/page/CODATA-2017_adjustment, and interested readers can access the papers themselves thanks to the new "Accepted Manuscripts" service. In this the papers accepted for publication are assigned a DOI (digital object identifier) and released in their "author-submitted form", meaning that they can be accessed and cited immediately. The same DOI will be maintained when the papers are typeset and officially published.
Dr Janet Miles (BIPM), Editor of Metrologia, said she was delighted to see that so many important results had been submitted to Metrologia. She congratulated all the authors involved, and paid special tribute to the many referees who had contributed to the process many of whom had reviewed papers under very tight deadlines.
Metrologia is the leading international journal in pure and applied metrology, and is published by IOP Publishing on behalf of the BIPM.
