The Joint Committee of the Regional Metrology Organizations and the BIPM (JCRB) held its second semi-annual meeting of 2016 in Nairobi (Kenya) on 14-15 September. This was the first time the JCRB has met in an east African country. Twenty-three delegates from all six RMOs and the BIPM were welcomed by Mr Joseph Mbeva of the Kenya State Department for Investment and Industry (Ministry of Industry, Trade and Cooperatives) and Dr Henry Rotich of the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS).
The major discussions at the 36th JCRB meeting centred around the actions and recommendations from the Working Group on the Implementation and Operation of the CIPM MRA, the report of which had been published on 23 August 2016 on the BIPM website. The JCRB coordinates activities among the RMOs in implementing the CIPM MRA, and specifically in establishing confidence for the recognition of calibration and measurement capabilities (CMCs). In addition to the successful conduction of the business in hand, the delegates were given a tour of the KEBS laboratories as well as being treated to music by the KEBS choir.
The semi-annual meeting provides delegates with an opportunity to discuss policy, best practices and to improve processes. Outcomes of JCRB meetings are published on the BIPM website.
