World Metrology Day 2016, which was on the theme of 'Measurements in a dynamic world', was a great success, with the number of hits on the website and downloads setting a new record. Events were held in more than 30 countries and 25 bespoke versions of the poster were produced by various countries and RMOs. The theme chosen for 2016 reflected both the challenge of accurately measuring dynamic quantities, for example the pressures in a combustion chamber, and the rapid pace of change in measurement science today.
World Metrology Day is held annually on 20 May to celebrate the anniversary of the signing of the Metre Convention in 1875. Each year World Metrology Day is organized and celebrated jointly by the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM) and the International Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML) with the participation of the national organizations responsible for metrology.
Institutes that held events to celebrate World Metrology Day are encouraged to submit a short report for inclusion on the World Metrology Day website.
