Best overall paper at the 2014 NCSLI Workshop and Symposium

The paper "Electrical Units in the New SI: Saying Goodbye to the 1990 Values" was selected as best overall paper at the 2014 NCSLI Workshop and Symposium and the extended paper has been published in the journal NCSLI Measure. The lead author was Mr Nick Fletcher from the BIPM's Electricity Department. The co-authors were Dr Martin Milton (BIPM Director), Dr Gert Rietveld (VSL, the Netherlands and recently elected CIPM member), Dr James Olthoff (NIST, USA) and Dr Ilya Budovsky (NMIA, Australia).

The presentation and paper resulted from the work of a task group which had been created by the Consultative Committee for Electricity and Magnetism (CCEM) at its 28th meeting (2013). The task group was set up to ensure that preparations in electrical areas for changes to the International System of Units (SI) are kept on track for a likely implementation in 2018.

The group started work to raise awareness during mid-2014 with a couple of well received conference presentations. As well as the 2014 NCSLI Workshop and Symposium in Orlando, Florida, in July a presentation was given at the Conference on Precision Electromagnetic Measurements (CPEM 2014) in August hosted by the Instituto Nacional de Metrologia, Qualidade e Tecnologia (INMETRO) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in cooperation with the Instituto Nacional de Tecnología Industrial (INTI).
