Recognizing that a change to the UTC time scale could have a significant impact in many applications, the ITU-R is completing a study relating to the impact of leap seconds, in advance of a possible revision of the definition of UTC. Taking advantage of the occasion of the leap second at the end of 2005, a wide consultation is being organized with the aim of documenting experiences and opinions.
Click here to read the ITU-R request. Responses can be sent before 13 February 2006 to tai@bipm.org, indicating "UTC consultation" in the subject of the message. All contributions will be collected and transmitted to the ITU-R.
