In recognition of the role of France as the originator of the metric system and depository of the Metre Convention, the CIPM encourages the election of one French member.
Mr Luc Érard, formerly Directeur de la recherche scientifique et technologique at the LNE, was elected in his own name as a member of the CIPM in 2004.
Mr Érard is also President of the Consultative Committee for Time and Frequency (CCTF).
