Terms of reference

The terms of reference of the CCM-WGM are:
    To study, develop and advise the CCM on issues related to mass standards;

    To define, organize and approve the necessary key comparison; and

    To collaborate with the WG on changes to the SI kilogram, TG 1, TG 2 and other relavant WGs.

The CCM-WGM has two Task Groups:

  • Task Group 1 on "Mass metrology under vacuum for a mise en pratique"
  • ;
  • Task Group 2 on "Uncertainty components due to traceability to the international prototype of the kilogram".
The provisional terms of reference for TG 1 are:

    To evaluate the available experimental results from the watt balance and Avogadro experiments with a special emphasis on the necessary vacuum mass metrology;

    To identify requirements on mass metrology for a practical realization of a new definition;

    To organize internation comparisons and evaluation of the results; and

    In coordination with TG 2, to identify and evaluate the uncertainty inherent in the mise en pratique for the kilogram when a new definition is proposed to the CGPM.
The terms of reference for TG 2 are:

    To report to the WGM and the CCM on the following:

    • The present uncertainty to which the unit of mass can be disseminated from the international to the national prototypes;

    • Methods for evaluating the correlation between the measured mass values of the prototypes of the kilogram;

    • Recommandations for additionnal measurements which would allow an improved uncertainty evalutation. These measurements may involve use of the international prototype or its official copies; and

    • In coordination with TG1, identification and evaluation of the uncertainty components inherent in the mise en pratique for the kilogram when a new definition is proposed to the CGPM.
