The BIPM and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have worked closely together in the field of radiation measurements since 1972.
The IAEA use the BIPM to calibrate their secondary standards, and Dr P.J. Allisy-Roberts, Director of the BIPM's Ionizing Radiation Department, is currently chairman of their standing SSDL Scientific Committee.
The IAEA signed the CIPM MRA in 1999 and were one of the first laboratories to publish their CMCs in the KCDB. They are Members of Section I and Observers of Sections II and III of the Consultative Committee for Ionizing Radiation (CCRI) as well of having a standing invitation to the CCRI. The IAEA is also a Member of the Consultative Committee for Amount of Substance (CCQM) and takes part in CCQM key comparisons.
