BIPM: Our work programme
The International Bureau of Weights and Measures has the mandate to provide the basis for a single, coherent system of measurements throughout the world, traceable to the International System of Units (SI). This task takes many forms, from direct dissemination of units (as in the case of mass and time) to coordination through international comparisons of national measurement standards (as in electricity and ionizing radiation).

A draft version of the work programme is presented at each meeting of the General Conference for consideration with the BIPM dotation. The dotation for the current programme of work (2013-2015), was voted by the CGPM at its meeting in 2011; the dotation for the following period (2016-2019) was voted by the CGPM in November 2014.

The final programme of work is determined by the CIPM in accordance with the agreed dotation.

The BIPM has an international staff of over 70 and its status vis-à-vis the French Government is similar to that of other intergovernmental organizations based in Paris. The budget for 2014 is over ten million euros.
